Chapter 2.2 takes a break from the Elise Family Line/Cassie Chapter to focus on Destiny Blanc and give Destiny’s backstory. Cassie’s story will pick back up in Chapter 2.3.
Destiny Blanc was beautiful and smart. Really smart. She could have easily risen to the top of any career she chose. Instead, she played a few gigs with her guitar each week and did other odd jobs here and there so she could spend the majority of her time partying with her friends.
Destiny felt that experiences were what mattered in life, and she wanted to live life to the fullest and on her own terms.
That’s why she lived in the world’s crappiest apartment and spent most of her money on club clothes and entrance fees. She she was crafty about buying her clothes on sale and knowing when and where there was a happy hour or ladies night. Fast approaching 30, she knew her looks and her low-rent, high-living lifestyle couldn’t last forever.
That’s where Diego Lobo came into the picture. He saw her dancing by herself in the Stargazer Lounge and approached her. Why wouldn’t he? She was stunning, after all, and he had a reputation as someone with an eye for beautiful people who went after what he wanted.
They hit it off and ended up club hopping together that same night. They both liked many of the same things, and they both liked to have a good time. And they were crazy attracted to each other.
Despite their instant and powerful physical connection, they didn’t end up going home together that night. Destiny said she wasn’t ready. They went on a few more dates after that, including one to the museum during the day…
…where things got steamy…
…and the Romance Festival that night…
…when the timing was finally right.
They continued seeing each other, and she even invited him back to her apartment, which was a place that she rarely let anyone see.
Within two weeks of them sleeping together, she became pregnant. She told him she wanted to keep the baby.
He said he wouldn’t have it any other way and that he would make sure she and the child were taken care of. He confessed to her that he always thought it would be cool to be a father but that it was something he never thought would happen for him.
A few months later, Diego took Destiny to a 2-bedroom apartment he had purchased. He told her that she could live their while she raised their child and that he would pay the rent plus money to furnish and decorate, as well as give her a monthly check for expenses so she wouldn’t have to work.
He seemed nervous about telling her. Destiny guessed that he probably thought she expected a proposal. She did not. She had always wanted to be a mom, but she had never wanted to settle down. “The apartment is perfect,” she said, “I love it!” Diego looked relieved.
They went upstairs and looked at the rest of the place, including the room they decided would be the nursery. It was so exciting to envision a crib in there!
She immediately started decorating so it would all be done by the time the baby got there. The first thing she did was dedicate half of her living room to a bar and a dance floor. Diego seemed a little concerned but went along with it. You can take the girl out of the party, but you can’t take the party out of the girl!
Even though Destiny had hired an interior decorator to help her, Diego wanted to be involved with setting up the nursery. He helped hang pictures and put the crib together. He also brought over some toys he had picked out.
Destiny didn’t bring anything over from her old apartment, not one single thing. She even bought new makeup and perfume.
As she lay in bed and looked at the spectacular view, she thought to herself that she had gotten everything she ever wanted–to be a mom, to not have to worry about money or rent, and to remain a free spirit. Life was good, better than good; life was great. To anyone watching, it would seem like she was the luckiest girl in the world.
Destiny and Diego had a son and named him Alarick Chance Lobo-Blanc. Diego told Destiny that he wanted to keep his paternity a secret. There were a couple of reasons for this. 1) He didn’t want people judging him or asking him personal questions, and 2) it was possible people could want to harm or kidnap the baby in order to get money, given Diego’s wealth. Alarick was much safer with no-one knowing who he really was. Destiny agreed.
Destiny had been prepared for the fact that Diego might be a distant father who merely wrote the checks, but Diego was very involved in his son’s life.
Even though he and Destiny ended their romance shortly after Alarick was born, Diego made regular visits. He played with Alarick, read to him, and tucked him in on many nights. He would mostly just visit the apartment and not go out in public with Alarick because of the need for secrecy. This arrangement worked out well.
Diego didn’t just do the fun stuff, either. He helped with baths, diapers, and all of the other things that come with having a baby. He was a dedicated father.
And Destiny was a dedicated mother. This doesn’t mean she gave up her party lifestyle. No way. But she did scale it back a little, and she always put her son above all else.
She had chosen well. You see, she knew Diego would be in the Stargazer Lounge that night they first met because she’d researched him. Actually, she had researched the top 20 richest men in the city–their finances, their habits, their traits, their likes and dislikes, their views toward family and responsibility, etc. And Diego scored high; he was at the top of the list. Like I said, Destiny is smart. When she said she wasn’t ready on that first date, she meant it literally. She wasn’t ovulating.
She did genuinely like Diego and she did genuinely want to be a mom, but she had also set Diego up. She thought he probably suspected; any man in his position of wealth and power would have their suspicions. But he never said anything or even hinted at it. He was too much of a gentleman. Destiny even gave Alarick the middle name “Chance” because she had taken a chance on Diego. It paid off, and she felt no guilt about manipulating events in her favor because she told herself that Diego was happier now than before. She never told a soul about her plan and she never would. Nobody could tell her secret if nobody knew her secret.
When Alarick got a little older, Diego would take him and Destiny on vacations to far away places where they wouldn’t be recognized. Destiny was glad he found a way to make memories with his son other than just being stuck in the apartment, and she was super glad to get to travel, as well.
Destiny thought she would never want to be dedicated to just one man for the rest of her life, but that all changed when she met a handsome policeman named Beau Lane. She met him through her parenting group, and they became good friends before things ever got romantic. Beau was married when they first met, but he later got divorced, and he and Destiny started seeing each other shortly after that.
And shortly after that, Destiny became pregnant again. This time, not on purpose. This was a whole new experience for her, and she didn’t like not being in control. She was freaking out inside. What would Diego think? Would he withdraw his financial support? What would Beau think? Would he be happy or upset? What did she think? She wasn’t even sure. Yes, she had wanted to be a mother, but she hadn’t bargained on it happening twice.
In the end, everything turned out fine. Beau was happy when he heard the news that she was pregnant. He even proposed; but Destiny refused. She had never wanted to get married. They had a little girl named Joslyn Reece Lane-Blanc, the apple of Beau’s eye. Alarick continued his support and enjoyed a friendly relationship with Beau, and of course, Beau pitched in money for Joslyn’s care. Even though they didn’t marry or live together, Destiny stayed in an exclusive relationship with Beau. She felt she had found her soulmate.
Before Joslyn was born, Destiny had Beau move the bar up and add a wall at the back of her living room, creating a tiny third bedroom.
Even though it was small, it was definitely a princess room, and Joslyn was definitely the princess of the family. It’s good to be a girl AND the youngest.
Joslyn’s two half-brothers, Diego’s son Alarick and Beau’s son Cole, also treated her like a princess and always looked out for her.
When Alarick got older, he started to intern at his father’s company. This gave Diego the opportunity to go out to lunch or other public places with his son, as it would just seem like Diego was mentoring him. They kept the fact that Diego was Alarick’s father a secret until just before Alarick graduated from high school. Their friends were shocked when they told them, to say the least! Of course, Beau and Cole knew, but they kept the secret, as well.
When Alarick turned 18, Diego gifted Destiny with the deed to the apartment but also cut off her monthly checks, instead giving money directly to Alarick for whatever he needed to buy. Destiny had started investing part of her funds from Diego early on, so she had enough saved up to live comfortably for the rest of her days. Think what you want about Destiny–that she’s a genius free spirit or a manipulative stalker. Maybe she’s a little bit of both. Regardless, she continued to be a devoted mother as well as a girl devoted to partying and living large, well into her later years.
